LANSING, MI – National Public Radio's Don Gonyea has been covering the President of the United States for nearly a decade. This year he's transitioning out of the White House to take on the role of a national correspondent. Gonyea is a Michigan native and a graduate of Michigan State University. He'll be speaking at MSU later today. Gonyea started his career with NPR covering Detroit. He spoke with WKAR's Rob South about his career and how it's changed since his days on the Detroit beat.

Prison inmates from Pennsylvania are arriving in Michigan this week to be housed in a state prison in Muskegon that would otherwise be closed. Pennsylvania is paying Michigan $62 per day for each inmate in an effort to relieve its prison over-crowding crisis.

ORLANDO, FL – Dwight Howard had a season-high 33 points and added 17 rebounds to help the Orlando Magic beat the Detroit Pistons 116-91 on Wednesday night.
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year added seven blocks in a dominating performance that gave Orlando its 11th win in the last 14 games. Howard was 11 for 13 on free throws, a refreshing reprieve for the Magic from his normal woes.
Vince Carter finished with 20 points, and Jameer Nelson had 14 for Orlando.
Michigan residents are growing slightly more optimistic about the state economy, despite high unemployment and a shrunken auto industry.
The Michigan State University State of the State survey shows that about half of the 991 people polled statewide from November 2009 through mid-January 2010 expect to be better off a year from now, while about a third expect to be worse off.
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has signed an executive order clearing the way for university, public school and local government employees to join the health care coverage plan offered to state employees.
The Democratic governor said Wednesday in a release that the move could offer those groups a way to save on insurance.
All of the state's health care plans would be open to participation, including a PPO, health maintenance organization, prescription drug coverage and dental and vision care.
