The state House has approved a bill that would require school districts to adopt anti-bullying policies.
AUDIO: The measure does not outline what has to be in a school district's policy, but it does suggest districts try to combat bullying and harassment in schools, busses, on social networking sites, and mobile communication devices.
State lawmakers are expected to meet late Thursday to put the final touches on a proposal to encourage veteran teacher and school employees to retire. Negotiations between House Democrats and Senate Republicans have been going on for weeks.
More than a dozen people opposed to the actions of Detroit Public Schools' financial manager Robert Bobb are protesting inside the state Capitol.

Lansing, MI – Lansing city planners are hosting a public workshop tonight [Wednesday, May 12] to gather input on how to revise the city's master plan.
Since last summer, the city has held more than 40 workshops to learn what amenities Lansing residents want for their community. Officials are considering suggestions on land use, transportation, economic development and green infrastructure.

Large fireworks that are currently illegal in Michigan may soon be sold at some businesses in the state. A bill approved by the state House would allow the businesses to purchase licenses to sell the fireworks.
AUDIO: People are already allowed to buy smaller fireworks in Michigan, such as fountains and sparklers. Many lawmakers recognize that consumers cross state lines to buy larger fireworks that are currently illegal in Michigan.
