WKAR celebrates 50 years of television broadcasting.

As part of our 50th anniversary celebration, throughout this season WKAR is featuring programs made right here in mid-Michigan. New programs from WKAR, Vintage WKAR encores, and historical milestones for our long-running favorites are all part of this season-long celebration.

A book covering the 50-year history of WKAR-TV has been assembled by WKAR Promotion Director/Editor Diane Hutchens. It's called WKAR-TV: A Historical Perspective 1954-2004. Hutchens created a similar book on the history of WKAR Radio a few years ago. He was an MSU student when the station went on the air and joined the staff a few months later, in 1954.
