The 38th annual Emmy® nominees have been announced by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences – Michigan, and both WKAR and Michigan State University (MSU) have received nominations.

Susi Elkins, WKAR television station manager, has been named interim director of broadcasting and general manager of WKAR Public Media at Michigan State University.

WKAR has learned that Dick Estell, legendary voice of the Radio Reader, has passed away. According to family, Estell died peacefully Friday, May 6, 2016.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters has named WKAR as Public TV Station of the Year.  Across WKAR-TV and WKAR-FM 90.5, the stations also earned ten Best in Category awards and six Merit awards at the Broadcast Excellence Awards 2015 ceremony May 3, 2016, in Lansing, Mich.

EAST LANSING, MI; MAY 1, 2016 -- In a QuizBusters championship series of games seen on WKAR TV over the weekend [Saturday, 4/30/16], the Okemos Chieftains defeated the Hillsdale Academy Colts to take home the title of QuizBusters Grand Champion for 2016.

WKAR Radio host El Chayo Cervantes has received the Domingo "Nick" Reyes Latina/o Workers Media Award. The award was announced in August 2015 by the Latina/o Workers Leadership Institute at the University of Michigan at Dearborn, and is intended to stimulate news coverage of issues and concerns related to the working Latino class.
