Second-ranked Alabama topped No. 3 Michigan State 38-0 Thursday night in Arlington, Texas to advance to the national championship game where they will face No. 1 Clemson on January 11th in Arizona. The Crimson Tide are looking for its fourth national title in nine seasons under coach Nick Saban.

The Cotton Bowl matchup between the Michigan State Spartans and Alabama Crimson Tide is now just a day away. Mark Dantonio and Nick Saban addressed the media for the final time before kickoff this morning at the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas, TX. Afterward, ESPN broadcasters Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler provided insight on the matchup. 

Michigan Takes Dodgeball Seriously

The competition is fierce, yet the stakes are not high. For members of the National Collegiate Dodgeball Association, club dodgeball is a way of life, regardless of the sport’s obscurity.

“Dodgeball has changed me as a person,” Kevin Bailey, the Grand Valley State University team captain, said. “The most rewarding part of dodgeball for me has been realizing a passion that I have and all of the friendships I have made through it.”

The 2000 MSU national championship men's basketball team was honored at halftime of Saturday's game between the Spartans and Florida Gators. Bryn Forbes had 12 points and six rebounds and fellow senior Denzel Valentine added 17 points, helping the No. 1 Spartans beat Florida 58-52, moving the team to 11-0 on the year.

MSU Senior Quarterback Connor Cook was sidelined during the second half of the Maryland game at Spartan Stadium on Saturday. Tyler O'Connor lead the offense, as the Spartans were able to escape with a 24 to 7 victory over the Terrapins, moving to 9-1 on the year.

The MSU men's basketball team topped Florida Atlantic University at the Breslin Center in Friday night's season opener. This marked the 31st consecutive season opening win for the Spartans, 18-3 under head coach Tom Izzo. 

Roller hockey passes on love of the game

EAST LANSING, Mich. – It’s a truth many athletes know: the only way to advance their sport is for younger generations learn it, love it, and then carry it on.

Michigan State’s roller hockey teams pay the love of their sport forward, by annually participate in Mission’s “Hockey College” for younger players.

Since 2007, Mission has held their Hockey College program, at college roller hockey tournaments around the country. The college players help run clinics for young players.

MSU club dodgeball player turns fun into Las Vegas career

EAST LANSING, Mich. - He is 22, and one of the youngest slot hosts in Las Vegas.

All because he played dodgeball in college.

That’s Mike Van Ermen, former captain of the Michigan State club dodgeball team, and he landed the job because of his unusual expertise.  

  “It is not really something that I would correlate – playing dodgeball and landing a career,” Van Ermen said, “but that’s how it worked out for me.”
