Making a movie is a complicated business. There has to be a script, a producer, a director, actors, costumes, sets, props, and a seemingly endless list of jobs to be done. If you’ve ever watched a movie through the end of the credits, you know what I mean. Today, Current State launches an ambitious project to follow the process of making a movie in Michigan from start to finish.

MSU musicians celebrate Mozart's birthday

Composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be celebrated tonight at 7:30 at MSU's Fairchild Theatre as the College of Music presents its annual "Happy Birthday Mozart" concert.  Woodwind musicians will perform several of Mozart's chamber works, and faculty vocalists will sing arias from three of Mozart's best known operas: "Don Giovanni", "The Marriage of Figaro" and "Cosi Fan Tutte".

Today on Current State: 8th district congressional candidate Ken Darga; Michigan Statehood Day marks D-Day with a former German prisoner of war; interactive exhibits at the Detroit Auto Show; live music with Matt Borghi and Mike Teager; and bonus auto show coverage on fixing up Cobo Arena.

Incumbent U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers will have a Democratic opponent when he runs for re-election this November. Ken Darga has thrown his hat in the ring this year against Rogers in the solidly Republican 8th district.

Ex-German POW to share story at Statehood Day event

On January 26th, 1837, Michigan was admitted as the 26th state to the Union. The Michigan Historical Museum is celebrating our state’s 177th birthday with its annual Michigan Statehood Day planned for tomorrow. The celebration is also centered around the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
