Okemos' Buckland stars on softball diamond and helps team win

OKEMOS, Mich. - Softball player Kate Buckland is proof that any athlete can excel with commitment, training, and hard work. Buckland says she wasn't born with the skills to be a great softball player, but reached elite level play with the help of many coaches over the years and hard work. She is headed to play Division I softball as a catcher at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.

Mason and Okemos soccer teams "Compete for a Cause"

The Mason and Okemos boys soccer programs met in September for the "Compete for a Cause" game at Okemos High School. Raising funds and awareness in the fight of childhood cancer was the goal for the event. It marked the first ever night-time soccer game for Okemos High School.

After a long Memorial Day weekend, Current Sports returns to the radio. Al and Isaac kick off the show trying to identify and solve the problems associated with the Tigers' three game skid. Then, Al and Isaac look back on the playoffs this year and have their opinions diverge over the punishment of Matthew Dellavedova and Al Horford. Then, hear Current State's Kevin Lavery talk about the movement for cricket in Okemos before the show closes with a belated 'Weekend Winners.'

Millions of people around the world are wild about a sport many native-born Americans have never played. Cricket is second only to soccer in global popularity. There are several adult cricket leagues in the Lansing area, and it’s not uncommon to see an evening game in progress at a local school playground, but this summer, officials in Okemos will offer the sport to young children for the first time.

  That one shining moment in college basketball belongs to Duke, who defeated Wisconsin 68-63 in Monday night's National Championship. Al Martin covers all facets of the game, including Duke's stellar freshmen and coach Mike Krzyzewski's legacy. Also, the Detroit Tigers start the season with a win against the Minnesota Twins. Al talks about the stellar performance from David Price and addresses his concerns with the bullpen.  Finally, Current Sports beat reporter Dominique Oden interviews Darus Ward, the head coach of the Okemos girls' soccer team.


The Waverly girls basketball team tops Okemos on the road, 65 to 16 the final. TJ Hawkins and the Warriors, who have spent time just outside the top 10 in the Class A rankings all year, now move on in the district tournament. Watch hilights from Monday night's game here.
