Last summer hundreds of thousands of people from around the world volunteered to take part in the first human expedition to Mars. The Mars One project provides a one-way ticket to the red planet for four finalists, who will form the first human colony on the planet.
Over 200,000 people from around the world have volunteered to leave their life on earth behind to become part of the first human colony on Mars. The project titled Mars One aims to settle humans on the red planet by 2023. Current State’s Emanuele Berry found out that the people who will man this mission are everyday people like Michigan native, Erica Meszaros.

The space agency has said it plans to send astronauts to the Red Planet by the early 2030's. While 20 years is a long way off, NASA has already begun the planning and research, and MSU scientists are part of these early stages.
