Much of the Lansing area is contending with floodwaters today.  The water is forcing street closures and threatening to inundate homes and yards.

Later this week, the Grand River in Lansing is expected to be at its highest level since 1985. The National Weather Service predicts the river to be cresting at 14 feet on Friday.


MSU Club Rowing Welcomes Schools to Head of the Grand Regatta

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's club rowing team recently welcomed multiple Michigan schools for the Head of the Grand Regatta. Grand Valley, Michigan Tech, Eastern Michigan and other clubs participated in the annual Fall race. The event included races for men's and women's crews.

In Lansing we’ve all heard of the River Trail--the 20-mile plus network of paved trails alongside the Grand and Red Cedar rivers.  Thousands of walkers, runners and bikers use it yearly.  

Is it time for a Grand River ‘water trail?’

A number of river and paddling enthusiasts would say ‘yes.’

A water trail offers canoeists and kayakers a more guided paddling experience, with better-marked access points and other amenities.  Proponents say water trails can also generate tourism for communities along its route.

The stretch of Grand River Avenue and Michigan Avenue from the Capitol building all the way east to Webberville is this region’s busiest corridor. A new plan, led by the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, is in the works to transform this corridor with more attractive design, improved rapid transit, and sustainable business and infrastructure improvements.
