State Sen. Patrick Colbeck, a conservative who has clashed with Gov. Rick Snyder on Medicaid expansion and higher fuel taxes, announced Thursday that he is running for governor in 2018.

June has come and just about gone. The Governor signed budgets this month, though not for a comprehensive road funding package as many had hoped. Primary candidates traded jabs, and the Detroit Free Press shined an intense light on the state’s charter schools and it has generated a lot of discussion.

Now that the budget’s done, Governor Rick Snyder goes to work on his goals for the balance of the summer. He spent a few minutes with the Michigan Public Radio Network’s Rick Pluta just after he signed the new state budget.
