LIVE MUSIC: Lansing's The Springtails

We're back with our Live Music Fridays series and featuring The Springtails. The Lansing-based band has released one album so far called "Because We're in Love" in 2013. The quartet performs a variety of styles, from swing and vaudeville standards to original compositions.

LIVE MUSIC: Lindsay Lou & Joshua Rilko

This week’s Live Music Friday featured Joshua Rilko and Lindsay Lou of Lindsay Lou and the Flatbelly’s. They played several new tracks from their most recent EP, "Here Between". Their first record was released in 2010 and they have been touring for two years, playing 200 shows within the last year.

LIVE MUSIC: Kalamazoo duo Red Tail Ring

Michiganders Michael Beauchamp and Laurel Premo are the duo known as Red Tail Ring.

Last year the "roots/Americana" duo released their third full length studio album, "The Heart's Swift Foot."  They play tonight at the Ten Pound Fiddle concert series.

With instruments like the fiddle, banjo, mandolin and even the jawharp, Premo and Beauchamp blend their harmonies into a clean traditional sound.

Red Tail Ring joined us in the studio to talk more about their roots and their writing process.

Current State is pleased to welcome Michigan State University music professor emeritus Ralph Votapek to provide today's live music.

Votapek’s daughter Kathryn is a violinist on the faculty at the University of Michigan and associate concertmaster of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. The Votapeks will play a benefit concert for Lansing Catholic High School on March 9th.
