In three weeks, voters will determine who will occupy 20 elected positions in Ingham County for the next two to four years. Democrats are expected dominate the county-wide contests which include county clerk, treasurer and register of deeds. WKAR’s Mark Bashore sat down with Kyle Melinn--the editor of the Michigan Information and Research Service, MIRS--to take a closer look.
Interest groups are spending unprecedented amounts of money on TV ads supporting or opposing initiatives to amend the state constitution. That’s according to a report from the Michigan Campaign Finance Network.
Unions are betting big on ballot proposals in Michigan this election. Voters in California and Alabama will also decide ballot questions dealing with unions, but neither of those measures is as sweeping as Michigan’s. It would enshrine collective bargaining rights in the state constitution. That could potentially reverse as many as 170 Michigan labor laws that limit union bargaining power and fundraising.
For close to a century, the League of Women Voters has aimed to inform voters objectively about political issues and candidates. With the 2012 election now four weeks away, WKAR’s Mark Bashore checked in with the organization’s Michigan President, Susan Smith.

The Michigan Supreme Court is expected to rule early this week on which questions will appear on the November ballot. The court has to rule this week if the state is going to meet state and federal elections deadlines.
