Local arts orgs seek return of certified teachers in Lansing schools

Teacher layoffs in the Lansing public schools have raised concerns among arts educators across the country.

Last spring, in response to a budget deficit, the Lansing Public School District laid off 87 teachers who were certified to teach art, music and physical education in its elementary schools.

Michigan hackfest turns state data into useful apps

An event this weekend in Detroit bills itself as “a three-day hackfest aimed at building great apps for the State of Michigan.”  The term “hackfest” may conjure up some negative connotations.  It’s real name –“Code Michigan” -- is a chance for techno geeks to unite for a noble cause.
