Corporate Support

WKAR-TV's strong commitment to local programming continues in 2016. Season 3 of both Forte and Curious Crew are in the planning and implementation stages right now, but we need funding.  Details on both shows are below as well as how you can help fund these great local programs.

Forte

Michigan State University and WKAR-TV have put the power of information in the hands of Flint residents through a new tool that navigates community resources in the wake of the ongoing water crisis.

The mobile app "Empower Flint" provides a checklist of important actions people can take to protect themselves, their families and pets as they battle elevated lead levels in the water supply. Released March 1, the app was developed by a team of researchers and specialists from MSU, the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, and WKAR-TV in collaboration with the people of Flint.

Spring is in the air! The birds are chirping, grass is green and WKAR's Annual Spring On-Air Fundraising Campaign is right around the corner!

This year our campaign will be April 12 through 18. There are a number of ways that your business can be involved.

Dollar for Dollar Donation Match

April is the month of Ken Burns. PBS will air a number of Ken Burns specials throughout the month. This will be a great way to reach WKAR's loyal, devoted audience, as well as helping to keep WKAR airing these great specials year after year.

JAZZ - a chronological and thematic 10 part series provides the history of jazz emphasizing innovative composers and musicians throughout American History. Originally aired in 2001

WKAR TV SAVED!

Jan 13, 2016

First of all, I want to thank YOU! You the community, the business leaders and the voices of the mid-Michigan community. The voices that made all of this happen.

I hope you heard that President Simon announced Monday, Jan. 11 that MSU will NOT participate in the FCC Broadcast Incentive Auction. This means that WKAR-TV will retain its broadcast spectrum and the station will be here to serve you.

Ways to Give to WKAR

Happy New Year Mid-Michigan!

Sending you warm wishes from WKAR Public Media, hoping your days are filled with warmth this winter season. WKAR makes every day warm, by connecting people to powerful ideas that inspire personal growth, exploration of our world and positive change. It’s something we achieve through the local and national programming offered on WKAR’s three TV stations and on radio at 90.5 FM and AM870. Our streaming services supplement this content with live and archived streaming for radio and TV, a local events calendar, and much more.

WKAR's classical music has a "whole lotta new" going on! In August, Jamie Paisley joined WKAR as our new Fine Arts Producer. Jamie not only contributes to the  great fine arts programming we discuss on Current State, he also hosts a live classical music show weekdays from 1-4 PM on 90.5 FM

One of the largest and most reliable sources of operating revenue for WKAR Radio is individual donors – thousands of members who give year after year to support their favorite programs.

WKAR Radio has three on-air fundraising campaigns each year. They are unique opportunities to use our broadcast signal to reach out and directly ask our listeners for support. Each campaign is vital to our overall funding and the most efficient way to gain new supporters. Our next campaign will be held on October 20-25, 2015.

EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS....

WKAR will be holding its annual Fall radio campaign on October 20-25. We are currently looking for up to 7 businesses that could offer us a gift or service that we can give away to donors. Examples of items needed are gift certificates, iPads, computers, event tickets, jewelry, etc. The minimum value of items needed is $500 and we plan to have one item each day of campaign.

In exchange for your item donation, WKAR will offer your business the following promotion for the particular date your business sponsors:

Have a family, friendly event coming up in the mid-Michigan area?

Looking for a unique way to get more families involved?

WKAR is not only an asset to the mid-Michigan broadcast community, we are also a strong advocate for our local non-profit community partners. This year I had the privilege of co-chairing the annual Tee It Up for KIDS golf outing for Child & Family Charities.

Summer is upon us, FINALLY! Rejoice!

With the warmer weather and vacation season comes open inventory on the WKAR network of stations. For a very limited time, we are doing a special 50% off our rate card rates for anybody that signs up to sponsor our TV and Radio programming between 6/1/15 thru 8/31/15. BUT you need to hurry because this offer is only valid thru June 15th at 5:00 PM. Complete details and rates are located at the link below.

Give Us A Shout Out!

WKAR would not be where it is today without the generous contributions from our corporate supporters. Below are a few testimonials from businesses in the mid-Michigan area:

This month I participated in the the annual Women's Build for the Habitat for Humanity of Lansing. This event gives area women the opportunity to give back and make a difference by lending their hands at building a house.

It is with great sadness that I write this blog. The end of an era is upon us, Downton Abbey will end after season 6. Sad faces all around ;-(

To give you an idea of the effect this show has had on mid-Michigan, Downton Abbey season 5, received an 8.78 rating in the Lansing DMA with 22,000 households watching and over 41,000 people watching through our entire viewing area. Quite unheard of for a PBS show.  To give you a bit of perspective, NBC's The Voice received a 7.2 rating and 60 Minutes received an 8.7 rating.
