"The War: Michigan Voices" Recognized by Public Relations Organization

The War: Michigan Voices and other World War II-related programming and promotional efforts were recognized by the Central Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America during their annual PACE Awards on Thursday, May 24, at Kellogg Center.

The effort received the Award of Excellence for outstanding public relations and personal achievement. Diane Hutchens accepted the award on behalf of WKAR.

“What a tremendous project!” wrote one judge. “It’s not often that a project like this with such lasting historical value comes along.” Another said, “It shows that issues of good and evil and aggressors who must be addressed are universal era after era in a human story.”

Other comments cited WKAR for making good use of partners. “It seems a tremendous amount was accomplished on a relatively small budget,” wrote another.

Included in the entry were the following components: the documentary programs; promotional and marketing efforts; radio programming (StoryCorps Door to Door), the comprehensive website, special events and fundraising efforts.

The War: Michigan Voices and Story Corps Door to Door can be heard on demand at WKAR.org.
