VIDEO: "The Cager" Premieres at NCG | Current Sports | WKAR

MSU men's basketball player Keenan Wetzel has been working on his film, "The Cager," for quite some time and finally was ready to reveal it to the public. 

The young director premiered the 25-minute short film in a private gala at NCG theatre in Lansing, MI. The movie stars his former MSU teammate, Delvon Roe. Wetzel wrote the script and began directing the film last summer.

WKAR's Al Martin made the trip to NCG to talk with Keenan, and others, about the remarkable accomplishment.

VIDEO: Senior Day Filled with Hugs and Tears | Current Sports | WKAR

The MSU women's basketball team closed out the final home game of the season with a 60 to 50 win over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. 

Michigan State seniors Becca Mills, Madison Williams, Anna Morrissey, Kendra Lumpkin and Kelsey Kuipers, were honored after the game.

VIDEO: MSU Squeaks by Rutgers | Current Sports | WKAR

Aerial Powers scored 18 points and matched a career-high with 18 rebounds for her 20th double-double of the season to help Michigan State upset cold-shooting No. 19 Rutgers 60-50 Sunday.

Powers has now scored 600 points this season, breaking the school's single-season scoring record.

Rutgers (20-7, 11-5 Big Ten) falls into a three-way tie with Minnesota and Ohio State for third place in the conference. Michigan State (13-14, 5-11) is now 2-7 against ranked opponents this season.

MSU Softball Bouncing Back from Tragedy | Current Sports | WKAR

EAST LANSING - The 2014 Michigan State softball season was one to forget for Coach Jacquie Joseph.

 The death of assistant coach Charles Fobbs in a pre-season car crash and injuries to their top two pitchers made for an emotional year, as the Spartans finished with a 12-37 record.

 “Was it the worst year of my life? Yeah,” Joseph said. “It’s because, for a lot of reasons. I lost one of my very close friends who happened to be on my staff.  It was incredibly difficult time, and on top of it we didn’t have a great season.”

EAST LANSING – The only focus for East Lansing senior wrestler Brian Darios is to win a state championship. In 2014, he set the school record for most pins in a season (32) and was a state runner-up. Numerous injuries have kept him off the mat this year, but his determination hasn’t wavered.

Ferguson’s Plan Turning Everett Hoops Around | Current Sports | WKAR

LANSING -- Everett Coach Desmond Ferguson never had the goal of coaching high school basketball. He said any high school coaching job in the nation could have been offered to him, and he would have said no.

After being a basketball standout at Everett and the University of Detroit, Ferguson spent 11 years playing professional basketball, including a stint with the Portland Trailblazers . Ferguson also became a businessman in 2002, when he founded Moneyball sportswear.
