The College of Communication Arts & Sciences (ComArtSci) at Michigan State University (MSU), renowned for its groundbreaking research, excellence in scholarship, and international engagement, influences the practice of communication globally. In recognition of the pivotal role of communication-related disciplines in society today, ComArtSci is searching for a broad array of new faculty members to excel with this college on the move. We invite ambitious and enthusiastic individuals with relevant professional experience to apply for any of the following Professor of Practice positions:

Professor of Practice in Filmmaking and Media Production - Posting #2541
The Department of Media and Information (M&I) and Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a professor of practice with expertise in film, TV style and live production to strengthen our Film and Media Production concentration and our innovative Media Sandbox initiative (msumediasandbox.com). Significant professional experience in screenwriting, producing, directing, and/or cinematography is required. It is expected that candidates will have a portfolio of projects that have been distributed via television, theaters, festivals, and/or online, and that some of these projects have received awards. Experience in fundraising and project development is also expected. Interest in other media, such as interactive and immersive environments, experimental media, and games are a plus.

The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate level often utilizing experiential learning approaches. Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing creative projects and department life. A terminal degree, such as an MFA or Ph.D., is desirable but not required.

The department has been teaching media production for over 60 years and contains an active student body, including several student organizations focused on film, TV, radio, and game production. The department also collaborates with WKARPublic Television and Radio. The M&I department is home to a dynamic, interdisciplinary faculty internationally renowned for their cutting-edge research and creative work. Our faculty are engaged in high level creative film, television, radio, game, and interactive media design, build human-centered technology, design traditional and interactive media experiences, and pursue creative scholarship. The Department has created multiple specialized labs including the GEL (Games for Entertainment and Learning) Lab and BIT (Behavior, Information, and Technology) Lab, and has state of the art production facilities in film, audio, and television.

The Department of Media and Information (M&I) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a professor of practice with expertise in game art and design to strengthen our Games and Interactive Media Design curriculum and the innovative Media Sandbox initiative (msumediasandbox.com). Significant professional experience in game art creation (3D graphics modeling and animation) and/or game design, is required. We envision an experienced game maker with a compelling portfolio. Ideal candidates would have a background and experience in games for entertainment and/or serious games. Interests in other media, including but not limited to interactive and immersive environments, film and experimental media and mobile/TV apps are a plus.

The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate level often utilizing experiential learning approaches. Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing creative projects and department life. A terminal degree, such as an MFA or Ph.D., is desirable but not required.

The M&I department has an innovative curriculum that blends theory and hands-on practice. The department's game design and development undergraduate program was rated #7 and the graduate program was in the top 20 in North America by Princeton Review in 2015. The department has been teaching game design for over 15 years and contains an active student body, including several student organizations focused on games. The M&I department is a member of the iSchools consortium and home to a dynamic, interdisciplinary faculty internationally renowned for their cutting-edge research and creative work related to games and meaningful play. Our faculty are engaged in building human-centered technology, design traditional and interactive media experiences, and pursue creative scholarship and have created multiple specialized research labs including the GEL (Games for Entertainment and Learning) Lab and BIT (Behavior, Information, and Technology) Lab, and has state of the art production facilities in film, audio, and television.
