The WKAR production team heads to 2013 BluesFest in Old Town this weekend to capture acts live onstage for the next broadcast season of BackStage Pass, the TV series featuring music made in Michigan and the Great Lakes region.

BackStage Pass will be recording several acts each day, September 20 and 21, on the festival South Stage. Friday's recording is scheduled to include Capital Areas Blues Society 2013 Blues Brawl winner Kevin Nichols and Blue Tuesday; Maurice Davis Quartet and Sugar Ray; and the Bluetones.

Saturday's recording will include Big LLou & the BluesVille Revue featuring the Mike Wheeler Band; Big LLou and the BluesVille Revue featuring Big LLou Johnson and Russ Green; and Big LLou and the BluesVille Revue featuring Nellie "Tiger" Travis.

WKAR Station Manager Susi Elkins will be introducing the acts, and the WKAR Street Team will be on hand, too.

The 2013 production season kicked off with concert tapings at East Lansing Hannah Community Center in June, and continued with recordings at Lansing JazzFest in August. The June through September recordings will be part of the fifth season of BackStage Pass when the WKAR original series returns in January 2014.

BluesFest recordings are a co-production of WKAR at Michigan State University, Michigan Institute for Contemporary Art and MessageMakers. Production support is provided by MSU Federal Credit Union.

This activity is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
