WKAR Radio and Television are collecting food items for Greater Lansing Food Bank through December 15.
Those wishing to participate may bring their items of commercially bagged, boxed or canned food to the South Lobby of the Communication Arts & Sciences Building and leave them in the food bank bin. Donations may also be delivered to the MSU Main Library lobby near the South Entrance.
In addition to individual donations, those collecting within offices, their neighborhoods, or at private parties may use WKAR's bin as a convenient drop-off site. Donations will be given to the food bank pantry in greatest need on the delivery date.
"We're pleased to welcome the MSU Library as a partner this year, joining our longtime partner, MSU's College of Communication Arts & Sciences. The library's location to central campus will make it easier for MSU faculty, staff and students in that area to make a donation," says WKAR's Jeanie Croope. "Last year the WKAR drive delivered over 800 pounds to feed those in the area who use the food bank's services. We would love to increase the amount this year. No matter which drop-off site is used, food will be credited to the WKAR food drive."
All items must be non-perishable and attention to expiration dates is requested. Items particularly needed this year include: high-protein items such as stews, canned meats and fish, boxed dinners, peanut butter, beans (kidney, navy, pinto, pork & beans, refried), boxed and canned 100 percent fruit juice, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta (macaroni, noodles, ramen, rice), instant potatoes, canned and boxed soup, snack items, baby food and formula and tomato products such as canned tomatoes and pasta sauces.
The food bank also accepts non-food products, including toilet paper and tissue, toothpaste and dental products, soap, shampoo and personal hygiene products.
WKAR is located in the Communication Arts & Sciences Building on MSU's campus. Metered parking is available, or one can simply drive up and drop the donation in the lobby. For a map to the station or for more details on the drive, visit WKAR.org.
