Whirlpool project set for state tax incentives

By AP

LANSING, MI – The Michigan Economic Growth Authority is expected to approve state tax incentives for a major building and consolidation project by Whirlpool Corp. in southwest Michigan.

The tax incentives for the world's largest appliance maker are on the authority's agenda Tuesday in Lansing.

Whirlpool last week announced plans for consolidating several owned and leased facilities to three campuses in and near Benton Harbor. The investments include a new building and could be worth close to $87 million while retaining nearly 870 jobs with the company.

Whirlpool has said it expects one-third of the cost will come from incentives from the state and local governments.
