U.S. Census Reports Population Growth in Lansing

May 30, 2017

Lansing’s population has grown for a fourth straight year. According to a release from Mayor Virg Bernero’s office, Lansing’s population went up by 1,111 in the year leading up to last July, to 116,020.

Bernero points to the U.S. Census Bureau estimate that Lansing has grown four years in a row as evidence that, in his words, “Lansing is on the right track.”

The release indicates that Lansing’s population increase of nearly one-percent is second only to Ann Arbor’s growth rate of 1.7-percent in Michigan. Grand Rapids grew by 0.7-percent.

Flint, Dearborn, Detroit and Livonia were among the Michigan cities with population declines last year.
