Susi's Station Notes: Fun in the Field
What a week! Earlier this week, music fans and friends of WKAR got the chance to be part of our BackStage Pass audience at Hannah Center in East Lansing. Six terrific bands -- ranging from hard rock to soul, funk to ska-punk and more -- took the stage over three evenings to record six of next season's BackStage Pass programs.
The audience was cheering and we loved to see them out of their seats as they took part in both a musical and television event. These episodes will be on WKAR beginning in January 2014 when the new season of BackStage Pass premieres. Watch for them. And if you missed these recordings, look for us in August at the Lansing JazzFest and in September at the Old Town BluesFest.
There are a lot of people to thank for making a production like this possible. Hannah Center and the City of East Lansing have been terrific partners. Jersey Giant Waverly, Pancheros and Noodles & Company fed our bands, staff and volunteers. Guests were able to enjoy Melting Moments, Clint's Hot Dog Stand and What's Up Dawg! during intermission at their trucks.
Executive producer Tim Zeko and our production crew (which includes a number of MSU students) work their tails off for this series. We also had a lot of great Street Team, student intern and staff support. Thanks to all of them.
It's radio's turn! This Friday from 6-11, Peter Whorf and the radio team will be broadcasting live from the East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival. This fun free festival offers some of the best in jazz. We hope you'll come down and say hello in person. But if you can't make it, tune in and listen to interviews with musicians and patrons along with performances from the Main and Interlude stages.
See you there!
