By AP

GRAND RAPIDS, MI –

A family member says Glenn Steil, a former state lawmaker from Grand Rapids, has died in Florida. He was 68.

Glenn Steil Jr. told The Grand Rapids Press that his father had a heart attack Friday in Bonita Springs, Fla.

Steil, a Republican, served eight years in the Michigan Senate and co-chaired the statewide campaign for term limits in the Legislature. He formerly owned Compatico, an office furniture company in the Grand Rapids area.

Steil was a former chairman of the Kent County Republican Party. He was involved in many community efforts and gave money to keep Grand Rapids pools free for kids in 2007.
