Legislation approved Tuesday by the state Senate would let landlords ban tenants from using medical marijuana in rental units.
The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports.
The bill would change Michigan’s voter-approved medical marijuana act to allow landlords to ban smoking or growing of medical marijuana. The bill got wide bipartisan support.
But three Democrats voted against the bill – including Senator Rebekah Warren of Ann Arbor.
“In your own home should be the place that you can take your medicine,” he says.
Supporters of the bill say growing or smoking marijuana can cause serious damage to property. The legislation now goes to the state House – where it will need a three-fourths majority to pass.
