Speaker says lawmakers will work during spring break
LANSING, MI – State lawmakers are on a two-week spring break. But House Speaker Andy Dillon says they will still being doing work.
When lawmakers wrapped up work last week, Governor Granholm said she was disappointed they had not gotten more accomplished on budget negotiations. Granholm's proposal to sweeten a retirement offer for public employees and teachers is still waiting for a deal between the House and Senate, and will have to wait until lawmakers return.
But House Speaker Andy Dillon says lawmakers won't just be relaxing.
"I'll be working diligently over the next two weeks to make sure we get these budgets resolved," Dillon says.
Granholm and budget officials say it's critical that the retirement proposal is approved the first week that lawmakers return to the Capitol.
