EAST LANSING, MI – Entering his eighth season as head coach of the Michigan State hockey program, Rick Comley is looking to put a disappointing 2008-09 season behind. He believes the 5-2 victory over the Mustangs, even though just an exhibition game, is a step in the right direction.
The young Spartans who struggled to find the back of the net last year showed signs of improvement led by Sophomore Daultan Leveille who tallied a goal and assist. Spartan newcomers Ryan Grant (goal) Torey Krug (assist) and Dean Chelios (assist) showed the potential on the offensive end.

Sophomore Drew Palmisano who takes over for the graduated Jeff Lerg was solid in net, stopping 13 of 14 shots. Senior goaltender Bobby Jerosz who Coach Comley says will get playing time in meaningful games this year also performed well, stopping 7 of 8 shots.

Michigan State opens its regular season in a weekend series at Munn Ice Arena against Clarkston starting this Friday night--puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.
