Snyder Says He Would Veto A Michigan RFRA

mlive.com

Governor Rick Snyder says he would veto a Michigan Religious Freedom Restoration Act if the Legislature sends it to him.

As we hear from The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Rick Pluta, that’s not out of the question.

A similar bill in Indiana caused a ruckus after it was signed by Governor Mike Pence. Governor Snyder told The Detroit Free Press he’d veto the bill if it were sent to him without companion legislation adding LGBT protections to Michigan’s civil rights law.

Sara Wurfel is his press secretary. She says he’s always been skeptical of a standalone religious freedom bill.

“He would veto it,” she says.  “He believes very strongly that it should be paired with an expansion of the state civil rights act.”

But the sponsor of a religious freedom bill in the Legislature says he wants to force the decision, and will work to send it to the governor’s desk.
