Snyder: Road Money Discussions “Constructive”

mlive.com

Governor Rick Snyder met Friday with the Legislature’s Republican and Democratic leaders to try and strike a deal on road funding.

The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Rick Pluta reports.

Governor Snyder hosted a day-long series of meetings in his state Capitol office to toss around ideas and crunch the numbers.

“And so it’s a good healthy discussion,” he says.  “Clearly, what we need to do is get additional funding for our roads, so let’s solve the road problem.”

Which, he says, requires more than a billion dollars in new revenue a year.  The options include a higher fuel tax or a higher sales tax. But it will take the votes of Republican and Democratic lawmakers to get it done, so any solution will have to be bipartisan.
