Snyder Hopes Congress Will “Fix” ACA, Restore Insurance Subsidies

Governor Rick Snyder says he hopes Congress moves quickly to restore health insurance subsidies that were eliminated last week by President Trump. The governor is concerned about the effect on rates for low-income families.

More than 156,000 Michigan consumers use the subsidies to get affordable coverage. Governor Snyder says more study is needed before deciding the state’s next move.

“There are concerns about what this could do to insurance rates in our state.” Snyder says.

The subsidies are already the subject of litigation, and there could be more lawsuits challenging the presidential order.

The governor says the best thing would be if Congress comes up with a solution.

The governor also says any fix Congress comes up with should be bipartisan, so it’s not endangered by changing political winds.
