Snyder hits campaign trail after tough convention

By Rick Pluta, Michigan Public Radio Network

EAST LANSING, MI – Republican nominee for governor Rick Snyder's campaign bus rolls through northern and western Michigan on Monday. Snyder and the rest of the ticket is stumping for votes following a brutal GOP convention in East Lansing this past weekend that often pitted insurgent tea party delegates against the Republican establishment.

Snyder says a rough convention did not alter his campaign strategy of focusing on jobs and the economy, and appealing to independents and Democrats for votes.

"I don't want any risk of complacency," Snyder says. "We're going to stay on the gas. We're working hard for November second, and I'm excited, so we're going to continue the same campaign we have about getting there, doing town halls, talking to people and getting more people on board the reinvention of Michigan."

Democratic nominee Virg Bernero is also on a tour of the state following his party's convention this past weekend in Detroit.
