With the primary election behind him, Democratic Congressman Mark Schauer is kicking off his re-election campaign for the November general election. He'll face the man who formerly held his seat, Republican Tim Walberg.

AUDIO:

Mark Schauers's 2008 victory over Tim Walberg was part of a nationwide blue streak that repainted many traditionally red districts like Michigan's 7th.

After his GOP primary win Tuesday, Walberg said many voters have been disenchanted with the Obama administration and Democratic policies.

But Schauer says Walberg has lost touch with many Republican voters.

"He is sort of the standard bearer for a very narrow wing of Republican primary voters," Schauer says. "He was rejected for his ideology that cost us hundreds of thousands of jobs in this state."

Schauer says he'll make the establishment of fair trade policies a major thrust of his re-election bid.
