A new Michigan Republican Party TV ad claims that Democratic attorney general candidate David Leyton failed to fully prosecute a 2006 murder case as Genesee County prosecutor. The 30-second ad began airing Wednesday on broadcast and cable stations statewide.

In the ad, Deb McIntosh claims that Leyton "cut an outrageous plea deal" with the man charged in her son's shooting death and "refused to press charges against the other two killers." She says her family agreed to the plea deal if others would be charged.

Leyton has said his office did everything it could. He says the evidence didn't support charging the other men. His campaign calls the ad a "disappointing" GOP tactic.

The ad doesn't mention Republican candidate Bill Schuette.
