Rep. Schauer holds health care forum in Delta Twp

By AP

DELTA TOWNSHIP, MI –

U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer is telling seniors the new federal health care law doesn't cut Medicare benefits and will help them cover more prescription drug costs.

The Battle Creek Democrat met with senior citizens Monday in Eaton County's Delta Township and in Adrian to answer their questions.

Mentioning what he says were misleading ads run against the changes, Schauer says: "It's time to focus on the facts."

Democratic lawmakers are hoping to sell the law's advantages to an uncertain public in coming weeks.

Schauer got some tough questions from the roughly 60 people at the Delta Township meeting, but no one brought signs or other props to protest. Sheriff's deputies watched from the back of the meeting room.
