Rep. Miller endorses Hoekstra in Mich. gov. race

Republican Rep. Pete Hoekstra has picked up the support of one of his southeast Michigan counterparts for his gubernatorial bid.

Rep. Candice Miller told reporters Monday in a conference call that she plans to collect support and money for Hoekstra in her district and especially in Macomb County, where she lives in Harrison Township.

The endorsement is an important one for Hoekstra, who lives in Holland and has a strong base in west Michigan but isn't well known in populous southeast Michigan. Hoekstra is one of five Republicans running for governor.

Miller was Michigan secretary of state for eight years before joining Congress. Asked if she would consider being Hoekstra's running mate, she laughed and said, "I don't think you need" two members of Congress on the same ticket.
