Racist comments lead to resignation of assistant principal

An Okemos Public Schools assistant principal has resigned following an investigation into racist comments he allegedly posted on Facebook.

Bob Bullock was the assistant principal for Chippewa Middle School in Okemos.

Last week, a Chippewa Middle School parent emailed copies of Bullock’s posts to several media outlets and the school district.

In a statement from Superintendent Catherine Ash, she wrote that “The comments were his personal thoughts and certainly not representative of the values and beliefs of the Okemos Public Schools…”

The position will now we filled on a temporary basis with a new assistant principal starting in the next school year.

Full statement from Superintendent Dr. Catherine J. Ash:

As you are aware,  we initiated an investigation based on a parent complaint regarding the content of specific posts on Mr. Bullock’s personal, public Face Book page.  The comments were his personal thoughts and were certainly not representative of the values and beliefs of the Okemos Public Schools’, the Board of Education or our school community.   Prior to completing the investigation, Mr. Bullock communicated his intent to retire.  On behalf of the district, I accepted his voluntary resignation/retirement.  Since he has no intention of returning to the Okemos Public Schools, the investigation will not continue.

The position will be filled on a temporary or interim basis for the remainder of this school year.  It is our intent to post the position by the end of March, engage in an extensive interviewing/hiring process and have a new assistant principal beginning with the 2017-18 school year.
