Peters Says He’d Vote For Same Obamacare Bill Today

mprn Jake Neher

Democratic candidate for U-S Senate Gary Peters says he would not have changed his vote in favor of Obamacare knowing what he knows now.

But as The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports, the Michigan Congressman says the law must be “fixed.”

Peters says the federal health care law has not worked for some small businesses and has created bureaucratic problems. But he says it’s also allowed hundreds of thousands of Michiganders to sign up for affordable health insurance. That’s why Peters says he’d vote for the same bill again today and look to make changes later.

“What you have to do is you have to go back, you have to make fixes,” he says.  “And where things are not working the way that you thought they were going to work, you make it work.”

Peters was speaking on the Michigan Public Radio Program Michigan Calling. His opponent – Republican Terri Lynn Land – is scheduled to be on the program on October 3rd. She has campaigned on repealing Obamacare.

Jake Neher is a reporter for the Michigan Public Radio Network. He covers the State Legislature and other political events in Lansing.
