TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The owner of a ruptured pipeline that dumped hundreds of thousand of gallons of oil into a southern Michigan river says the damaged section will be ready for
inspection and possible removal Friday.
Enbridge Inc. officials said Thursday that federal regulators will determine how much of the pipe is cut away for analysis.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the leak, which sent crude oil into the Kalamazoo River and tributaries last week.
The pipeline runs from Griffith, Ind., to Sarnia, Ontario.
Government and company officials say the cleanup is going well. They say greater amounts of sheen are being spotted in some places because rain washed it from vegetation and the shoreline.
