This new, weekly radio program focuses on newly released classical music, hosted by Peter Whorf, WKAR Radio station manager.
"Our new two-hour program of the latest classical recordings features contemporary, orchestral, chamber and choral music from around the globe, across the country and here in mid-Michigan," says Whorf. "We'll also hear interviews with world-class performers, emerging artists and composers. Local musicians and listeners will also play a regular part in selecting our music."
The December 14 and 21 edition of the program will feature an hour of new classical holiday releases. These programs will be perfect for those looking for the ideal gift for classical music lovers or new recordings to enjoy over the holidays.
MSU Faculty Recital Series - Debuts December 5 on 90.5 WKAR
Also debuting on 90.5 Classical is the "MSU Faculty Recital Series." The first program airs Wednesday, December 5, at 7:30 p.m., and features MSU College of Music professor emeritus Ralph Votapek. Votapek may be one of the best-known pianists in Michigan, but his status extends to global recognition. The first winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, he has appeared with many of the major symphony orchestras throughout the world. He opened this year’s Lansing Symphony Orchestra season in celebration of 50 years since winning the Van Cliburn competition.
"MSU Faculty Recital Series" airs monthly on WKAR. The content may include intimate solo or ensemble recitals, as well as performances by Michigan State University’s symphony orchestra. This is a great opportunity to get to know world-class local musicians and their music.
