Neighbors in Action: Haslett Robotics Team

Courtesy of the Haslett Robotics Club

It’s Wednesday and time for our Neighbors in Action segment, where we feature people and organizations working to make our community a better place. Today we feature the Haslett Robotics Club, which uses robotics to engage youth in the Haslett school district and surrounding areas in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.

Todd Wilson and Claus Buchholz are two coaches for the Haslett Robotics Club.

Buchholz says the students in the club learn to use professional-level programming language.

Wilson added that kids seem to be generally interested in being challenged at this kind of level.

Qian Bates is a sixth grader at Haslett Middle School and a member of the club. Bates says she joined the robotics club because she thought it would be interesting to use her hands to build things.

We could always use more nominations and we know there are people and organizations out there that are doing excellent work and we just don’t know about them. Please help us out and tweet us at @KARCurrentState or send us an email to Currentstate@wkar.org. Put “Neighbors in Action” in the subject line and tell us why you think they should be featured for the great work they do.
