Rachael Denhollander (R) was the first woman to publicly accuse Nassar of sexual assault. She thanks MSU President Simon for attending the sentencing.

The Larry Nassar sentencing proceedings continued in Lansing today, and a growing number of victims have been expressing outrage at those they say enabled Nassar’s abuse.

During the past two days, several of Larry Nassar’s victims have directed their anger not just at him, but at USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University for their failure to stop him.

"All the people at USAG and MSU and United States Olympic Committee who covered it up and allowed this negligence and abuse to happen to children are responsible," said Gina Nichols, speaking on behalf of her daughter Maggie. Maggie Nichols was the first one to report Nassar’s abuse to USAG, in 2015.

After noon on Wednesday, MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon entered the courtroom for the first time this week and sat in the back. During a break, Simon responded to those asking for accountability.

"I think there are steps being made toward accountability and there are other steps that will follow, and some of it will have to occur in a setting that is a rule of law, others will occur in other forums. This is not the day to have that conversation."

The sentencing will continue the rest of this week, with about 50 more victim impact statements expected to be heard.
