MSU's Simon Again Declines Salary Bump

Michigan State University

Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon has again turned down a salary increase.

The last time Simon accepted a raise was five years ago.

Instead of a raise, MSU trustees have written a $100,000 annual retention bonus into her contract.

Simon says she and her husband Roy will give the money back to MSU and to charity.

"We are, by most standards, very comfortable, and we feel like we need to give back to the community," she says. "So, this is a way of giving back."

Simon's salary will stay at $520,000 a year.

Today marked the final trustees meeting for Melanie Foster, who lost her re-election bid in November to Brian Mosallam.
