MSU's Lucas has surgery

By Scott Pohl, WKAR

EAST LANSING, MI –

Michigan State's trip to the NCAA Final Four was diverted to an operating room Tuesday.

Star point guard Kalin Lucas underwent surgery to repair his Achilles tendon. The team won its last two tournament games without him.

Coach Tom Izzo says he hopes Lucas is well enough to be with the team in Indianapolis.

"His dad says if he needs to be here 'til Saturday, we'll bring him down then, but he will be there for the game if any way possible," he says. "And, I'd like him there earlier, just so he could enjoy some of what he helped us get."

The Spartans play Butler University Saturday night, with the winner advancing to the national championship game on Monday.
