The annual outdoor theatre season at Michigan State University Summer Circle Theatre opens this week. It’s an exciting time for the MSU Theatre department because Summer Circle will be staged for the first time on the newly-constructed Summer Circle Courtyard stage next to Fairchild Theatre.

The outdoor performances have often been plagued by wet grounds and swarms of mosquitoes over the years, so the department is looking forward to using the new facility. The Friends of Theatre at MSU will host an event there on Tuesday called "Celebrate the Stage," with shows kicking off Wednesday night.

Current State's Scott Pohl went to the Summer Circle Courtyard last week to talk with a couple of people, including associate professor of acting Rob Roznowski, who runs the Summer Circle program.

The Friends of Theatre at MSU will hold their gala to celebrate the new Summer Circle Courtyard Tuesday night starting at 6 at the Courtyard. The first show of the season is Wednesday night at 8: "Mr. Burns: a post-electric play."

Scott Pohl is a general assignment news reporter and produces news features and interviews. He is also an alternate local host on NPR's "Morning Edition."
