An economic think-tank based at Michigan State University is releasing the results of a year-long study on attracting and retaining younger workers in Michigan.

AUDIO:
The student-run company 'Spotlight Michigan' surveyed some 16,000 college students across the state about what attracts them to a given community. The group's Anthony Mianecki says the results show that physical amenities like parks and stadiums are less important than what might informally be termed "innovation systems."

"The institutions in a city or environment need to promote networks, involvement, integration and other sort of ideas and less tangible attributes to get people involved in a place and connected to a city," he explains. "And that will keep them there more than the physical, you know, convention center."

Mianecki says 'Spotlight Michigan' would like to conduct an in-depth study of retention trends in Lansing.
