EAST LANSING, MI –
Michigan State assistant coach Mark Montgomery says Tom Izzo called a team meeting Tuesday, informing his players he has talked to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Montgomery says Izzo told the Spartans to focus on classes and workouts. Izzo did not tell the Spartans he was leaving the school to coach the Cavs.
Cavs general manager Chris Grant has confirmed that the team has been in contact with Izzo and other candidates.
The Cavaliers fired Brown less than two weeks following their second-round loss to the Boston Celtics. Brown, named the NBA's coach of the year in 2009, led the Cavs to 127 regular-season wins the past two seasons but couldn't get LeBron James and the team back to the NBA finals.
