Milton Muelder, MSU administrator and benefactor, dies

EAST LANSING, MI –

Long-time Michigan State University professor, administrator and benefactor Milton Muelder has died, reportedly from complications related to pneumonia. He was 101.

Muelder arrived at MSU in 1935, and his resume' includes time as dean of science and arts and the graduate school. He also headed the MSU Foundation.

Muelder is credited with an instrumental role in the university's move into nuclear physics research in the 1950s. He helped establish MSU's first office of international programs.

His donations to MSU exceeded $1-million to various departments, including works of art donated to the Kresge Art Museum.
