East Lansing, MI – As the Michigan State football program prepares to open up the 2010 season, head football coach Mark Dantonio enters with championship aspirations both on and off the field.

Despite competing in a third straight bowl game to end the 2009 campaign, the season ended in disappointment, losing two straight games on the field and with players mired in controversy off of it. Enter the 2010 season Coach Dantonio believes the team has learned valuable lessons from their mistakes and will be better teammates and more --importantly-- better people because of it.

Michigan State returns 15 starters from last season, including 7 on offense led buy Junior Quarterback Kirk Cousins who was 25th in the nation in passing efficiency last year. The defense returns 6 starters and 2 specialists from a year ago, led by All American linebacker Senior Greg Jones who not only led the Big Ten conference but ranked 3rd in the nation in tackles with 154.

With the core group of players in key positions returning, and with a young talent competing for playing time, Coach Dantonio believes that the team has solidified their depth on both sides of the ball and can begin rising to the upper echelon of the Big Ten Conference.

The Spartan's season opener is September 4th against Western Michigan in East Lansing.
