Michigan State alone atop Big Ten after big rally

By AP

EAST LANSING, MI – Michigan State is No. 5 in the newest AP poll after a pulsating comeback against Northwestern.

The undefeated Spartans won 35-27 Saturday after trailing 17-0 in the first half. The victory enabled them to move up three spots in the poll. They edged out defending national champion Alabama by two points for the No. 5 spot.

This week, Michigan State will put everything on the line in probably its toughest remaining game in the regular season, a trip to play No. 18 Iowa. The Spartans are alone in first place in the Big Ten, but Iowa, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Purdue are all a game behind in the loss column.
