Michigan St gets New Mexico St in NCAAs

By AP

EAST LANSING, MI – Michigan State has earned the No. 5 seed in the NCAA tournament's Midwest Region and a first-round matchup against 12th-seeded New Mexico State.

The game will be Friday in Spokane, Wash.

Last year's NCAA runner-up stretched its string of NCAA tournament bids to 13, all under coach Tom Izzo. That is the third-longest streak in the nation behind Kansas and Duke. The Spartans (24-8) earned an at-large berth this season after sharing
the Big Ten regular-season title with Ohio State and Purdue.

They have reached the Final Four five times in the past 11 years, the most of any school in the nation. That included an NCAA championship in 2000, 21 years after their first crown with Earvin "Magic" Johnson.
