Michigan officials report 6 more swine flu deaths

By AP

LANSING, MI – Michigan officials say they've received reports this week of six more deaths from the swine flu, including a 6-month-old child.

The deaths announced Thursday are in addition to 16 since Sept. 1 that state health officials reported in a Monday update. Most of those who died from H1N1 complications had underlying health problems.

The state says Michigan has had 32 H1N1-related deaths this year, including 10 from April to September.

Schools around the state continue to close due to illnesses, including 46 on Thursday and 492 earlier.

The state says there have been 656 hospitalizations with flulike symptoms since the beginning of September and nearly 190,000 reports of flulike illnesses, including about 53,000 in the past week.
